Clos de la Roilette is one of those iconic producers of Beaujolais that has a very devote following of members who engage in his wines year after year. In some vintages, they are not for everyone as the structure of the wine is quite tannic and tight; needing sometime to lay down and evolve. Yet with 2010, we have a wine good to go right off the bat; packed with dark fruits that range from plums to mulberries to dark cherries all containing this almost intangible meaty, charcuterie element that lets off smoke, olive and just the slightest hint of a candied licorice thing. When the wines evolve they begin to develop the ubiquitous forest floor element that most good Burgundies contain. But that is irrelevant: buy this wine, let it breathe for an hour, serve it with a slight chill and Thanksgiving will never be the same.
